Evaluation of the PG-100 Alexandrite Laser Device for Axillary Hair Reduction

In 2022 (1401 in the Iranian calendar), a study was conducted to assess the safety and efficacy of a domestically manufactured Alexandrite laser device for reducing unwanted hair in the axillary region. The study was performed at the Dermalab laboratory on volunteers with a mean age of 36 years and Fitzpatrick skin types III and IV.

The intervention consisted of six treatment sessions with the Alexandrite laser, each spaced 4–6 weeks apart.

Hair reduction was evaluated using digital photography and TrichoScan imaging to quantify hair count and shaft thickness. In addition, an independent physician assessed and scored the degree of hair reduction based on standardized before-and-after images.

At the end of the study, the mean reduction in hair count was approximately 37%, and physician scoring indicated a 26–50% decrease in hair density and thickness. Pain intensity reported during sessions—without the use of topical anesthesia—reflected good overall treatment tolerability.

Apart from a single case of moderate erythema, no significant adverse events such as dyspigmentation, blistering, scarring, or paradoxical hair growth were observed.
